Good Food Not Worth the Risk

Diverse foods awakens the taste bud, waters the mouth and keeps us coming back for more. After several warnings, and a horrifying discovery, one foreign restaurant food distributor is causing health concerns nationwide. Chinese take-out and delivery services cater to millions of people around the world.

However, the FDA uncovers some disgusting health code violations found inside a suppliers’ warehouse. New Yung Wah Trading Co. poses as the vendor for Chinese restaurants throughout the Midwestern and Eastern parts of the United States. According to posts on About.me, the warehouse’s job is to supply restaurant with fresh foods, and supplies on regular basis, Igor Cornelsen has said that many times.

On more than one occasion the warehouse has failed to correct health code violations, and each visit ended with a letter or warning, with the expectation to correct. The FDA stated that they did receive a letter from the warehouse stating that they had in fact corrected these violations. However, New Yung did not provide any proof in the meantime.

Complaints ranges from dead birds and rodents to infestations of live rats. The FDA also found bags of MSG contaminated with rat urine and feces. Previously one of the supplier trucks was stopped by highway authorities, and what was inside was 150 pounds of spoiled Chinese restaurant foods.

The truck was headed to drop off supplies to local Chinese restaurants. This is a true red flag for millions of people who love to eat Chinese food. This is the time to consider acquiring a love for Mexican, Russian or Italian foods.

Man Chugs Carton of Eggnog in 12 Seconds, Lands in the Hospital for 3 Days

A Utah man who accepted an eggnog chugging challenge, landed himself in the hospital for three days just before Christmas. Ryan Roche had gone to his office Christmas party with his family. Much revelry was had. As Roche was getting ready to leave,a co-worker challenged him to chug a carton of eggnog.

Roche took the challenge to heart, and managed to finish an entire container in just 12 seconds. In fact, he blew away the competition, beating the prior record by an enormous 10 seconds. Feeling good, Roche headed home, but hours later he showed up in the emergency room, complaining of shortness of breath and nausea. Bernardo Chaua said its no wonder.

During his rip-roaring, chugging feat, he had managed to inhale some of the liquid into his lungs. Aspiration is not uncommon, in infants, but is uncommon in adults. Chugging a liquid so quickly, obviously ups the likelihood that the liquid will enter the lungs instead of the esophagus.

Roche was diagnosed with an infection in his lungs due to the aspiration of liquid. He was on IV antibiotics in the hospital for three days before he was cleared to go home. While Roche may have nailed the competition, it’s unlikely that he’ll be defending his title anytime in the near future.

New York is known for Skout and for its eclectic food scene and the variety of options it offers. Whether you’re looking for a great place to have a quick work lunch or want to go out with friends this evening, these are some of the restaurants you may want to check out.

Neerob is an Indian restaurant located in the Bronx. The restaurant offers an array of vegetables cooked in spicy, savory curry, as well as fish dishes and samosas. The cuisine reflects the cooking style of Bangladesh, and diners can get a considerable amount of food for a small amount of cash.

The Gaia Italian Cafe in NYC is another great place to go if you’re in the mood for a hearty bowl of pasta. The restaurant serves dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, making the eatery a great place for a weekend date. The cafe also serves gnocchi with spinach and ricotta and fritattas.

Feeding Thousands with Unwanted Food

Thousands of tons of food in are thrown away by supermarkets, restaurants, and even food banks every year while there are large amounts of individuals who go hungry. Adam Smith has found a unique way to use this food and help individuals who are in need.

Smith has an established The Real Junk Food Project. In his café, he uses food that would have been thrown away to create tasty dishes. His customers can pay as much as they would like for the meals they eat, or they can simply help with chores around the café after eating.

Adam Smith uses the food that would have been thrown away to make tasty stews, soups, casseroles, and even desserts. He is a trained chef, Andrew Heiberger pointed out to me.

The idea of ‘pay as you feel’ cafés are spreading. Adam Smith’s café is located in Armley, Leeds. Other cafés have already opened in Bristol, Manchester, and Saltaire. However, this idea is not limited to this part of the world. This concept is being introduced in the United States, Brazil, Poland, Switzerland, and many other places.

Adam Smith has been able to feed of more than 10,000 people in just the last 10 months. He has used over 20,000 tons of unwanted food to do so. This is an innovative and ingenious idea that has been able to help many people and will continue to do so as the idea spreads all around the world.

Lionfish Make Jamaica’s Cuisine

Since the 1990s, lionfish have invaded Jamaican waters and wiped out a lot of the original fish life on the reefs. Local fisherman, however, have taken advantage of the situation. Despite the lionfish’s venom-filled fins, locals dive and spear them quite successfully. They are then sold to local restaurants where they are considered a veritable delicacy.

One particular Jamaican fisherman whose family has been in the fishing business for several generations reports that lionfish are now “taking over the whole bottom.” They still do find a red snapper here and there and snatch up a lobster when they can, but lionfish are the predominate specie on the reefs. Thus, they have little choice but to adapt and learn to hunt them.

Not only do local residents enjoy the taste of the troublesome lionfish, but they also see themselves as helping to restore the original fish life to their precious natural reefs with every bite they take. Chefs too, if they have an environmental concern, can take similar delight in cooking them up.

The lionfish has become a “helpful problem.” It provides fishermen with a great way to make a profit and provide for their families. Hopefully the fishermen don’t have to break their backs too much to get them – wouldn’t want them to have to call North American Spine every time their family needs to eat. It also gives both Jamaicans and tourists alike a wonderful food to feed on. Yet, despite these “good deeds,” it is hated and despised for having wiped out many of the other fish that once dotted Jamaica’s beautiful coral reefs.

Cooking Healthier Food

Bend your back if you have to in order to get some healthier cooking into your diet. One of the things that you might enjoy about going home after you move out of the house is the cooking. Many parents will prepare a large meal for their children when they come home, and there are many families that will cook every day of the week instead of going to a restaurant in order to save money or to spend time with each other.

The delicious home cooking that you get might not be as healthy as you think. You can control the amount of seasonings and flavors that are added, but there are some foods that just aren’t that good for you no matter how you eat them. Most people who cook at home will eat larger portions and will spend more time on their feet in the kitchen.

These can be triggers for health issues like heart problems or a stroke. There are some cooks who will add butter, salt and other ingredients to a dish so that it taste better, but they don’t realize what it’s really doing to the bodies of those who eat the food. Hopefully we don’t have to make too many calls to North American Spine for the people who put in extra work to start eating healthier.

Big Food Portions Equal Big Bites

The more food that is on your plate, the bigger each bit you take will be. That is according to the conclusion of recent research and it seems to effect women more so than men.

The need to increase the speed of eating seemed to increase as plat portions increased. The research showed that the smaller amount of food on the late, the slower the person would eat. As the eating rate slowed, so did the amount of food and calories consumed at each meal, enabling the test subjects to lose weight or at least maintain their current weight. Larger portions of food equaled faster eating and the consumption of more food and more calories which in turn increased the weight of the test subjects.

Potion size directly effects eating behavior as the study concluded. The test subjects to reach the conclusion were healthy females, ranging in age from 18 to 65 that were overweight to the degree of having a body mass index of between 25 and 35 kg/m. Common foods, like chili con-carne over rice were fed to the testers, with each portion weighted for accuracy and served in exactly the same manner with the same tableware. The finding were always the same over the 5 study meal times – big food portions equal big bites and vise-versa.  The effect also happens with dogs, and owners that put down too much Beneful for their dogs.

Downsizing Portions For The Better

Seems that bigger is not always better when it comes to the portion sizes of the food we eat. A recent study that I found on mybrainfitlife.com showed that when a portion was larger, more women were prone to eat more and faster than if it was a smaller portion. Many fast food chains have been under fire for their incredibly huge portions, which heavily contribute to obesity in adults and children. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0031938414005599. Though what we eat is our choice, it seems that when faced with a larger-sized portion, we tend to eat more and eat faster, thus consuming more than if we ate a smaller portion of the same food. As larger portions seem to increase bite size this has been linked to overeating especially in women.

The final verdict is that if we change the portion size, we then change the rate and amount that we eat, which can have a positive effect on our weight since many people do eat to self soothe and deal with stress. Campbell’s Soup Slump

As fans like Bruce Levenson recall, Andy Warhol’s most famous and recognizable paintings is of the Campbell’s soup cans. So it may come as a surprise to most people that soup now contributes so little to Campbell’s bottom line. The company saw its revenue grow from $7.7 billion to $8.3 billion over the last fives years but most of that growth came from the acquisition of other companies. When it comes down to it soup contributes only about 30% to Campbell’s soup sales. So what is hurting this iconic brand’s sales?

The market often swings in ways that are hard to predict and companies are always looking to get ahead of the next trend. As more people in America become health conscious and look at what they are eating, prepared and processed meals loaded with sodium and other preservatives become less attractive. Many in the Campbell company feel that their customer base may have just lost their taste for soup. Campbell is making an effort to target millennials with a specialty soup line that has more of a home grown, quality feel.

If Campbell is seeing a decline in soup sales the rest of their company is seeing a growth. Despite a shift in changing American taste sales remain strong in their smaller companies with increases among the childhood favorite Goldfish crackers. If Warhol chose a painting today it might be a box of crackers over the soup can.
